Biography of Roy Campanella
Roy Campanella was an American baseball player and a renowned catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was born on November 19, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. His father was an Italian immigrant, while his mother had African American heritage. Due to racial segregation, Campanella did not have the opportunity to play in the Major League Baseball until 1947.
Since childhood, Campanella had a passion for baseball.
At the age of fifteen, he played for the Washington Elite Giants, a team in the Negro Baseball League. In 1942, he moved to Mexico and joined the Sultanes of Monterrey, a team in the Mexican Baseball League.
In 1946, Campanella was invited to join the Brooklyn Dodgers, a team that was then playing in the minor league.
