Dr. Attipat Krishnaswami Ramanujan, widely known as A.K. Ramanujan, was a renowned scholar whose research spanned multiple disciplines including linguistics, poetry, mythology, translation, and folklore.
Born in Mysore, India, in 1929, he pursued his education in India in English literature and taught at many universities.

In 1959, he migrated to the United States, and earned a Ph.D. in linguistics from Indiana University in 1963. He taught at Harvard University, University of California-Berkeley, and University of Madison, Wisconsin, before making his academic home at the University of Chicago, where he taught from 1962 until his death in 1993.
